Do you have a flight in the future that’s going to be more than five hours?  If so, you’re probably wondering how you’re going to keep yourself entertained.  Well, with today’s technology and everything else, it isn’t hard to keep yourself entertained at all.  I’m going to give you some tips on how you can deal with those long flights in the air.

Reduce your stress at the beginning

Rushing is never fun no matter what it’s for.  If you find yourself being late at the airport, you’re just going to stress yourself out.  This is why it’s important that you get to the airport fairly early.  I would recommend you get to the airport at least 2 hours early.  You never know what kind of lines you’re going to face as well as the security checkpoints.  They may pull you aside for some silly reason.

There’s no need to dress up

Let’s face it that no one cares what you look like.  There’s no reason to dress up in a suit for a eight hour flight.  Instead, throw on what’s comfortable to you.  If you find wearing a sweatsuit is comfortable then wear it!  No one is going to judge because they will all be in their own little world.

Grab all your entertainment

Entertainment is the best way to fly.  Before you fly, make sure you check out your plane to see what kind of entertainment they are offering.  You may find that they are offering in flight movies or something else that may interest you.  Besides the in flight entertainment, you can never rely on it 100% because what happens if it doesn’t work?  Make sure that you bring books, your DVD player, Nintendo DS or whatever it takes to keep yourself occupied for a few hours.  Always purchase your entertainment outside the airport because once you’re inside, the prices are going to kill you!

Bring an airline pillow

If you’re on a late night flight or you know you’re going to be sleeping, you may want to bring an airline pillow.  I posted about the best airline pillows on the market.  You can grab one for as little as $10.  Once again, if it sounds great, get one now so that you don’t have to pay top dollar at the airport.

Limit your drinking and eating

When we find ourselves being bored, we sometimes resort to eating and drinking.   Well if you find yourself drinking a lot on the plane, what does that mean for you?  Yes, it means you’re going to have to go to the bathroom quite often.  Make sure you try to keep yourself occupied so that you don’t have to resort to drinking and eating 24/7.

Long airline flights can be a bummer but as long as you bring the necessary entertainment to keep yourself occupied, you shouldn’t have a problem with the flight.  Try some of these tips above and hopefully everything works out for you!

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight

The flight simulator by Microsoft is by far one of the best flight simulator games on the market today.  With the century of flight, you’ll see a dynamic weather system based on realistic physics as well as true 3-D clouds that form and dissipate.  Not only that, you’ll see enhanced interactive air traffic control including traffic at all airports around the world.

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 received an A+ rating by 1UP as well as a 5 star rating from users over at Amazon.com.  Upon playing this game, you’ll soon find out why it received great rating.  There are nearly 200 missions with unparalleled realism as you fly a detailed fighter and bomber missions for the German, Soviet and Japanese air forces.  There are over 32 fighters as well as a handful of maps including the Kieve region, Korea and Burma.  If you want to re-live World War II, I would recommend you check out this game.

Falcon 4.0: Allied Force

If you’re a fan of the F-16, this may be a game you’d be interested in.  Pilot three different variants of the F-16 falcon and shoot a variety of air-to-air missiles like the AIM-120 and AIM-9 sidewinder.  You can simulate an entire war with the most advanced and truly dynamic campaign engine ever made for your PC.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe

If you’re looking for a very advanced flying game that makes it seem like you’re almost a pilot, you may want to look into the Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe edition.  Fly up to 24 airplanes and visit over 24,000 airports across the world.  Fly over your home town as well as view the streets below.  In my opinion, this is one of my favorites on the list.

B-17 Flying Fortress by Atari

If you want a simple yet addicting fun flying game, the B-17 Flying Fortress by Atari is a great pick up.  Here, you’ll take control of any of the 10 individual positions on the plane and it puts your in command of the entire squadron of 12 bombers.  Fly through the map as you deliver a bombing storm to many enemies.
