When you’re on the hunt to find airline tickets, did you know that you can find some amazing deals on eBay?  Most people always check on major websites such as Orbitz, Priceline and Travelocity but they always forget about other avenues like EBay.  I’m going to show you what to look for and how you can save.

Look for travel agents

Travel agents love to use eBay.  They will offer their services for as little as a dollar and they will guarantee you that they can find the lowest rate.  If they don’t find you the lowest rate possible, the most likely will give you a refund.  This is a great route to take if you don’t know how to search for travel tickets that well.  Sometimes you may find that they have close ties with the airlines and they are able to pass these savings down.

Check for vouchers

Many travellers may have some sort of vocher or coupon left over that they simply don’t need.  I’ve seen great vouchers on there before from $100 off your flight to a free airline ticket.  While these are rare, you’ll see these pop up here and there so keep your eyes peeled.  Even if it’s a 10% coupon code, it could be well worth it, especially if you’re spending $200+ per ticket.

Look for charity events

EBay is known for holding charity events from major corporations.  This is a win-win in my eyes when it comes to purchasing because you’re able to not only help a cause but get a good deal as well.  Some corporations will put airline tickets, hotels and more all up for grab.  Charities are another thing that you can look out for.

No matter who you are, I’m sure you’ve dealt with some sort of airline delay if you have flown before.  Airline delays are here to stay but there are some things that you can do so that you can potentially avoid them.   You won’t want to show up at the airport and find out that your plane has been delayed for 4 hours.

Research before you book:  Before you even book your flight, check out the ratings of every airline.  Airline ratings are based on an array of things including if they’ve been on time.  A great place to start looking for ratings is FlightStats.com.  Put in the airline and flight number and you can get a great list of statistics all for free.

Call up ahead of time:  If you have your flight booked, always call up ahead of time to see how your plane is doing.  If there’s a delay, they will let you know about it.  I would recommend that you always call up ahead of time, especially if the weather is bad.

Always arrive early:  Even if your plane isn’t experience a delay, always get the airport early.  This will just make it easier for you so that you know you can get on the plane and get seated.  Nothing is worst than running through an airport or going through security.

Talk with the airline:  If you find out the flight is cancelled or severely delayed for any reason, ask and see if you can get on the next available flight.  If it’s an emergency, let them know!  Never pay for your ticket either and always make the airline responsible for your next flight ticket.

Try and avoid peak times:  Try avoid flying during peak times.  Instead, fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday when traffic is light.  If you can do this, you’re going to save the trouble of a delay.  I’m not saying your flight won’t be delayed but your odds of a delay are greater when you’re with a bigger crowd.

There’s only so much you can do when there’s a delay.  If you do experience a delay, just stay calm because everything will work out in the end.  If you become angry, you’re only going to hurt yourself and make things worse.  Airlines love working with people that will cooperate, trust me.

Set your schedule

The first thing you need to do is know when you want to go.  If you’re flexible with your dates, this is great because studies have shown that flying on a Tuesday or Wednesday is usually the cheapest way to go.  Write down the dates you’re looking at.  This will make it easier for you in the long run when you’re making a search.

Go to a search portal

My absolute favorite website online to search for airline deals is Kayak.com.  Go to this website and throw in all the information on when and where you want to go.  Once you do this, look at the right hand side of your screen and browse the calendar.  This calendar will show you which days are the cheapest.  The next step you want to do is click on the days that are interesting to you.

Study the list

Once you click on the calendar list, the next steps you want to take is by looking at what airlines are offering the greatest deals.  Now, here’s the kicker.  You won’t want to go directly to the airline’s website because you’re going to get the best deal.  Let’s look at it this way.   The airline will have to pay these companies an agent fee and if you use the airline themselves, you’ll be able to bypass these fees.

Join the frequent flyer club

If you’re already loyal to an airline, that’s great.  I hope you have a frequent flyer number.  If you don’t, you might as well join.  The process is free and over time you can get free tickets.  Even if you fly twice a year or even every other year, the miles add up very quick.  Not only can you get free airline tickets, you can also get gifts like magazines and more.  It always pays to be loyal with an airline.

Whenever I purchase a ticket with an airline, I always do this process.  Every time, I’m able to save a lot of money just by taking a few minutes of my time.  Never just buy the first ticket you see.  As long as you do your research, you can really take advantage of the savings.
