The thought of a 18 hour flight can kill anyone, when you really think of it. But, if you really need to travel via the air for this long of a time, you may want to try a few techniques in order to calm yourself down, as well as make your flight a little easier.
Always bring entertainment: Do your homework ahead of time, and know how long your flight is going to be. If it’s going to be 5 hours, you won’t want to bring one DVD movie that’s 2 hours. I think you get the point here. You’ll want to bring as much entertainment as possible. It’s always best to have more entertainment, than none at all.
Get to the airport early: Always make sure that you get to the airport early. This way, you’re not going to be in a rush, running around the airport. If you can get to the airport at least three hours early, it’s going to be a lot easier for you, and the people that are travelling with you.
Drink a few on the flight: If you’re a drinker, and you have a few dollars laying around, you may want to grab a few beers, or a bottle of wine to pass the time. Once you start to feel good, you may find that it’s going to be a lot easier to fall asleep on the flight.
Sleep a few hours away: It may be best to come to the airport tired. This way, when you’re on the flight, you’ll be able to get a good nights rest. Nothing passes the time as fast as sleeping does. Be sure to check out a post a while back that I wrote about the best airline pillows on the market.
Best to bring carry on: If you can, bring carry on luggage, since many airline are going to charge you for a checked in bag nowadays. It’s going to be best if you can pack as much as you can in a carry on bag. If you’re going to stay for more than 3-4 days, you may want to consider checking in your bags.

When you’re travelling with a child, you’re going to find that you’ll most likely need a crib at your new place. Instead of folding up, or taking apart the crib at home, you may want to invest into a travel crib.
