Airfare can be expensive, and it can be cheap depending on when you travel.  With the power of the Internet, it’s so easy to save on money these days when you purchase your airfare online.  I did some scouring online, and found some great tips that you can use in getting the best possible airfare prices online, when it comes to getting your airline tickets.

Always use the comparison engines

There are a few websites I like online when it comes to comparing airline prices.  These sites that I use a lot are SideStep.com, and Kayak.com.  When you go to these sites, you’ll just pop in where you want to go, and when.  On the right hand side, you’ll see each day, and what it will cost you.

Book early and on a weekday

Studies have shown that the earlier your book, the better your prices are going to be.  While this isn’t always the case, most of the time it’s going to be true.  Also, make sure that you book on either a Tuesday, or Wednesday.  These are both great days to get excellent airfare prices.

Try and book direct

When you book through 3rd party services such as Expedia, or Travelocity, you’re going to end up paying booking fees.  If you book through the airline itself, you’re most likely going to get the best deal possible.  This is why it’s important to search these comparison websites, and buy through the airline’s website itself.

Look for the hot deals

If you don’t know where you want to fly, try sites like TravelZoo that will point out some of the best airfare packages in the industry.  I’ve seen packages as low as a few hundred dollars, including a hotel.  This is a wonderful site that’s free, and gives you a lot of great deals every Wednesday.

Think about packages

Sometimes you can get the best deals when you book everything at once.  If you’re going to get a rental car, a hotel, and a flight, try looking at packages online.  Once again, you can try TravelZoo as I mentioned above, or you can use other sites like Priceline, etc. that show you some great deals and packages in the area that you want to go to.

The next time you buy your airline tickets, try some of these tips above to see how much money you can save.  As long as you search around, and not buy the first ticket you see, you should be able to save some money.
