Whether you’re a loyal traveler to British Airways or maybe you want to know a little bit more about their frequent flyer program, I wanted to give you some information on what their program is all about and if you should sign up for it to take advantage of the rewards.

This program works just like any other frequent flyer program.  You’re going to get miles for every qualifying flight that you make.  The more flights that you make, the more miles that you get.  The more miles that you have in your account, the closer you’re going to be to a free flight.

How the reward program works

What you’re going to find out is that there are 3 tiers that you can take advantage of.  You’re going to have the Blue, Silver, as well as the Gold.   Each level is going to be a little different when you meet it.   For example, to meet the Gold entry, you will need 1500 tier points to be considered, “gold.”

To earn points, you can either purchase them, or do what many people do and that is earn them.  The longer you fly distance wise, the more you’re going to earn.  You will also earn more if you fly in a premium cabin.  On top of flying, the higher you are in the tiers, the more you’re going to earn.

You can use their handy calculator here to see how much you can potentially earn for that particular flight.  It will give you a good idea on how long it is going to take for you to get a free flight.

How much does it cost?

To join, it is free.  You will be able to then earn miles right away and work yourself up the chain to earn even more bonuses.

What can I get with my rewards?

Every tier is going to vary but to highlight some of the things that you’re going to get are going to include priority seating, you can get miles when you purchase with their exclusive partners.  On top of that, you will get a baggage allowance, reservation assurance, lounge access, as well as bonuses and rewards.  To compare the tiers, you can see all of that here.

Are there blackout dates?

Again, every tier is going to vary.  You’re going to find that there are blackout dates and will vary depending on the year you apply.  Book via their booking tool to see if seats are available with your reward points.

Do my miles expire?

According to the terms and conditions, you will find that miles will expire if they aren’t used within 36 months.

This program isn’t that bad if you fly with them a lot.  You will find that the higher you work your way up on the tiers, the more you’re going to get in bonuses, which make it nice.

If you’re going to fly this airline a few times a year, it doesn’t hurt to sign up, as you’re going to find that the program is going to be 100% free to join.
