When you’re looking to save money on a hotel room, you’re going to find that it’s not going to be difficult at all.  In fact, if you just put a little effort into it, you’ll find that you can save at least 10-20%.

Know your destination ahead of time: If you can know your destination ahead of time, this is going to help you find the best deal, but even if you don’t know where you want to go, you can always browse deal sites such as TravelZoo that show the top 20 hot vacation deals of the week.  Here, you can find a load of deals on vacation packages that can save you big.

Stay more than one night: Any expert is going to tell you that if you stay more than one night, you’re going to save big.  Make sure that when you want to book  your hotel, you book more than one room.  Many hotels out there will give you the 3rd night free, or a heavy discount.  If you stay on a weekday as well, this can save you big.

Try a hotel credit card: Hotel credit cards are great for those looking to save on hotel room, especially when you’re loyal to a hotel.  Every time you spend a dollar, you will get points.  Once you receive enough points on your statement, you will be able to get a free hotel night, or exclusive discounts.

Get a hotel coupon book: If you’re on the road, and you don’t know where you’re going to stay, stop at a rest area, or travel stop, and look for the hotel coupon saver books.  In these books, you can find some great deals on hotels that are going to be on your route.  Look for a hotel along the highway you’re on, and see how much you can save.

Name your own price: Priceline has a cool new feature where you can name your own price for a hotel.  The only downfall to this is that you won’t know where you’re going to stay, in terms of the hotel.  For example, if you want to stay in Orlando, and want a room for $55 a night, it’s going to ask all the hotels if any of them will accept this rate.  If one of them bites, you will now have a room for $55!  This is great to try if you’re staying in a safe area, with not that big of selection when it comes to the hotels.

Use your AAA card: If you don’t have a AAA card, or any type of travel card yet, I would recommend you look into one.  These cards alone can save you anywhere from 10% and on.  It’s a great way to save money on hotels, and many other things.
