Whether you’re about to head out to the airport today, or maybe you’re going to head out to pick up your relatives or a family friend, you’re going to want to know if a flight is going to be canceled.  Why head to the airport, when you don’t have to?

Why are flights canceled?

First of all, 99% of the time, flights are canceled due to the weather.  Whether it’s a hurricane, snow storm, or something else, this is generally why they are called off.  Sure, there may be those unforeseen circumstances where the runway is damaged, or something else.

Regardless of the fact, if the weather is going to be bad in either the departing or the arriving city, you’re going to want to check to see if the flights are still running at 100%.

How can I check my flight status?

#1 Call up the airline: To get an answer that’s 100%, I would call up the airline direct.  Some airlines work on an automated system, while others will direct you to a live operator.  You’re going to want to tell them your flight details and they will give you any information that they have about your flight.  If it’s going to be canceled, ask them about an alternative flight.

#2 Use tools online: Sites such as USAToday have a cool thing called the flight tracker, where you can input the destinations and it will tell you anything that you need to know about them.  This is great for those that don’t really have access to a phone, or you would simply want to check it online.

#3 Refer to your airport: If you head to your airport’s main website, they will have more details about your flight stats, as well as arrivals.  They will also have toll free numbers that you can call in order to get more information that you will need in order to call up an airline.

By following these 3 tips, you’re going to find that you will more than likely be able to find out if your flight is canceled.  What the airlines are going to do most of the time is either make you wait, or push you to another flight in the day.  This is all going to depend on the weather situation.
