Every month, it seems as if we are hearing about airline fees being jacked up or another fee is being added. It seems as if it’s going to be too expensive to fly anymore. Well, like anything in life, there are always way to save no matter what you purchase. From a home to grocery shopping, there are always ways to find discounts and I’ll give you some tips on how you can find them.
Always buy early
Studies have shown the that earlier you buy airline tickets, the better the deal will be. This of course means that you should purchase your tickets at least 6 months in advanced. The longer you wait, the more you’re going to have to pay as time goes on. Use websites like Kayak.com to show you the cheapest rate you can get when it comes to saving on airline tickets.
Look at your destination
Did you know that your destination alone will determine your price? Flying to some places may cheaper than others. If you’re flying to San Diego, check the surrounding airports to see if you can get a better rate. You’ll be surprised how cheap it can be. When I flew to Los Angeles once, I checked out area airports like Las Vegas and was able to save $125 per ticket. With a family of 4, this is easily $500 saved. As long as you can drive a few hours, it’ll be worth the savings alone.
Travel on weekdays
Weekdays like Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are always the cheapest when it comes to flying. If you can book your travel on these days, you can easily save up to 50%. Experts say that Wednesday is generally the best day to fly if you’re looking to save on money.
Be flexible with your schedule
If penny pinching is your game then you’re going to have to be flexible. Sometimes you’re going to find that flying at 6AM is going to save you $50 compared to flying at 4PM. If you can be flexible with your schedule, you’re going to be able to save even more money.
Use airline credit cards
Airline miles credit cards are huge when it comes to savings. In fact, there are cards out there that will enable you to get a free ticket just for signing up! Make sure that you do your research when applying for one because there are some good deals out there. Even if they don’t offer the free ticket, the points on the credit cards can add up fast.
Saving on airline travel isn’t that hard. As long as you follow the simple tips above, you can really save a lot of money. It’s your duty to do the research and find the cheapest deals possible.
