Saving money on a car rentalTravelling isn’t cheap nowadays.  You have to rent a car, book your hotel, grab a flight and pay for all of your food.  How can one afford all of this?  Well, if you know where to find deals, it actually can be quite affordable.  Today, let’s look at how you can find cheap car rentals.

Car rentals can be expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing but thankfully for the Internet, we can find the best deals possible.

Start by searching online

There are many car rental companies out there and depending on where you’re going, there may be a few or a lot.  I would recommend you use a comparison car rental search like CarRentals.com that lets you look at all the car rentals in the area you’re attending along with the price you can get.  This will give you a better idea on what you’re going to pay.

Look for unlimited mileage

The best car to get in my opinion is one that allows unlimited mileage.  If you sign up with one that charges you per mile, you’re going to find that you may have a bigger bill than expected at the end of the renting cycle.  Since most companies don’t charge by the mile nowadays, it never hurts to see if they do.   If they charge by the mile, you’re going to be paying for it.

Search for rental coupons

If you do find a great rental company online that you want to book through, search for a coupon online before you do reserve it.  Like anything on the Internet, there are always ways around purchasing things at full price and there are literally coupons for everything.  A favorite coupon site that I enjoy is RetailMeNot.com.

Ask for more discounts at the desk

When it’s time to pick up your rental car, ask for any discounts that are available.  You may find they have a 3 night plus one night free deal or even a free upgrade deal.  It never hurts to ask because the worst thing that they can say is “no”.

Decline the rental insurance

All rental companies will ask if you want the rental insurance.  You’ll find that you’ll either already be covered by your own or even your credit card.  Yes, there are credit cards out there like the Citi PremierPass that will cover your car rental insurance.

Car rental companies are everywhere and as long as you compare prices and look for discounts, you shouldn’t have a hard time finding the best deals.  Remember, they want to stay in business so if you like one company, tell them what company B is offering and see if they match.  Aggressive people will get further when it comes to saving money!
