If you find yourself traveling outside of the United States, you’re probably going to wonder what immunizations you’re going to need, in order to either travel there or remain healthy.  Without some immunizations, some countries won’t even let you travel there.

Where are you going to travel?

The first thing that you’re going to need to do is know where you’re going.  If you don’t have a destination in mind, I would wait until you know.  You don’t want to go out and get immunizations that you don’t even need.  Once you know what country you’re going to be traveling to, you’re going to want to click here in order to see what you need.

Where can I find these clinics?

Once you know what immunization you’re going to need, you can basically call up your Doctor’s office and ask where you can get them. Most of the time, you’re going to be able to get them right in the office.  If they state that they can’t give it to you, you may be able to find a clinic using this tool to see what’s available in your area.

When you know of your trip, you’re going to want to make sure that you schedule this appointment about 6 weeks in advanced just to make sure that you get everything done properly.

What kind of immunizations may I need?

  • Tetanus
  • HPV (human papillomavirus vaccination)
  • Varicella
  • Herpes
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella
  • PPSV (Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccination)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningococcal

There are going to be more than these, depending on the country.  These are the most common ones listed above.

How much is this going to cost?

A lot of the times, you can head down to your community health building and get them done for free.  If you’re going to get it done in your regular Doctor’s office, you will pay your regular Doctor charge.  This will depend on your health insurance, etc.

Be smart when you’re ready to travel.  Make sure that you always play it safe and get your immunizations.  Not only are you going to protect yourself from any health disaster, you’re going to protect those around you as well.
