Travelling is a lot of fun and it can be fun whether you’re travelling with your family or you’re travelling alone.  While travelling alone can be a blast, there are a few tips you should follow if you’re a female and you’re going to travel the world alone.  Being aware of these tips will only make your experience safer.

Alert your family – Before you even take off on your trip, make sure that either your friends or family know where you’re going.  Print up all of your flight and hotel information and hand it off to your family just so they know where you’ll be at all times.  Make sure that you keep in contact with at least one person when travelling so that they can be at ease and not have to worry about you 24/7.

Pack extra security – Before you even take off on your trip, make sure you purchase some hotel locks for your hotel because you can’t trust the locks the hotel will provide you.  Purchase travel locks and alarms so that you’ll feel safer.  Here are a few items I highly recommend for female travellers –

  • Security Belt – This belt is an awesome thing to have that will simply hide your passports, money, etc.  This way you won’t have to carry around a purse.
  • Luggage Lock – Make sure that your luggage is locked at all times.  I highly recommend this secure lock that will prevent any crook from getting into your belongings.

Know the area – Make sure that you do a lot of research before you land in your destination.  Make sure that you know where your hotel is going to be and what’s going to be in that area.  If you’re going to rent a car, make sure you know of the parking situation.  If you feel the parking area is unsafe, simply call a clerk and they will be more than helpful to assist you to your room from your car.  If you’re going to take a taxi, make sure the taxi is licensed and it’s a legit company.  Always sit in the back seat of a taxi.

Travel in the daytime – If at all possible, try and travel as much as you can during the day.  Try and avoid travelling at night.  The lighter it is during the trip, the easier it’s going to be for you to get around.  If you’re taking a  trip via your company, simply ask them if they can book you in the early morning

Say “no” – No matter where you go, you’re always going to be approached by unwanted males.  Some mean no harm and some are simply just strange.  If you’re approached by anyone you don’t want to come into contact with, simply say “no thank you” to all approaches and walk away.   If they won’t take no as an answer, make a scene and run for help.  If you’re going to be at a bar or a place where there’s alcoholic beverages, make sure you keep your eye out on your drink at all times.

Get travel insurance – If something bad happens to you on vacation, you’re going to want to have travel insurance because you won’t want to show up at the hospital and find out you’re not going to be insured there.  Make sure you’re safe and always spend the extra couple of dollars to save the thousands you might occur at the hospital.  If you’re looking for a good place to start, try AIG Travel Insurance.
