Travel Agent Careers – Starting One
posted by FindAirlineCards.comWhen you think of a travel agent, you probably think of an old age based career that isn’t around anymore. This couldn’t be further from the truth! It’s still a hot industry, and if you know how to find clients, you can make a killing.
When you really think of today’s technological era, you have to look at places such as Expedia, and others. These places are just like travel agents, but online. Before you start up your career, I’ll want to give you a few pointers on how you can make yourself stand out.
Be unique: Like this travel agent career guide states, you will want to stand out about the rest! What’s going to make people come to you, instead of the places online. If I were to become an agent, I would instantly inform myself about just about every vacation hot spot.
Be informative: This brings me to my second point. As long as you can answer a little bit about everything, people are going to love you. What happens if a family comes in, and asks, “Where can a family of 4 go in August that has great whale watching?” What are you going to say right off the top of your head? As long as you can inform yourself, you can make yourself stand out a lot!
How can I start my Travel Agent career?
#1 Look for CTA certification program, and start the classes right away. I would communicate with a local community college, and see if they can get you on the right path. Here, you’re going to be able to learn everything you need to know about the industry. If you wish, you can start up a 4 year college program if you wish.
#2 Take the TAP test after you finish up your certification program, and if you pass, you’re going to be added to the national list of Travel Agents. When employers are hiring, or looking for someone, they can spot you on the list, making you more hirable.
#3 Start your job hunt after you past step #1 and #2. If you wish, you can potentially find entry level jobs, or you can start up a site of your own. It’s really up to you.
Travel is always going to be around, and even though you don’t see travel agencies on every corner, you will find that if you start one up, connect with the people out there, and offer a good service, people will come to you to book their vacations.
