Hotels are everywhere you go and if you plan on staying in one in the future, you’re probably curious on what really makes a great hotel.  All of us on this planet are different when it comes to taste.  You may like a wide open room with purple walls while I like a more confined space with monotone walls.  Everyone here is different but when it comes to the majority, this is usually what most of us like –

Having clean rooms:  Let’s face it that no one wants to open up the door to their hotel room and find that it’s trashed.  You want to walk into the room and notice that it has clean sheets, clean dressers, TVs, bathrooms, etc.  There’s no bigger turn off than a dirty hotel room.

Helpful staff:  No matter where you go when it comes to business, you’ll want great service.  The same goes with a hotel.  Everyone loves walking into a hotel and seeing a friendly staff.  You want them to help you with everything from getting you something to telling you where the nearest store is.

Great location:  If I’m going on vacation, you want to be near everything.  If I have to travel 15 miles just to get to something, you can forget that I even want to consider it.  Yes, a great beach view and that is great but you also have to realize that you’ll need to go to the store and gas station here and there, especially if you’re taking longer trips.

Feeling safe:  This one goes along with the location part.  Who wants to stay in the ghetto when it comes to getting a hotel room?  Not only does a location play a role, you want to have a safe room as well.  Does it have a well lit parking lot?  Good locks on the doors?  Can anyone get in at night or do you have to use your key?

The extras:  If you’re staying for an extended period of time, you’ll probably want a room with either a kitchen or some small area where you can cook food.  Not only that, you’ll probably want either an exercise room, a pool, etc.  This is all up to you when it comes to booking a hotel.

A lot these things you’ll want to look out for.  This is what makes a great hotel chain.  Many hotel chains work the same so if you find one that you like, most of them will work the same way.  This is why I generally stick with one chain that I like.  I know what to expect every time I go to one.  Not every hotel is perfect when you’re on vacation and yes, people love to complain but if you do find the right one, you’ll want to keep coming back.
