Do you have plans to fly somewhere in the future?  If so, you may be wondering what an airport is like and what to expect if it is your first time going there.  Airports are all different but they all have somewhat the same rules and ways of doing things.    So if you’re flying for your first time and you would like a heads up for what an airport is like, continue reading below for some tips!

Where to go – Once you go to the airport find your terminal.  You will go to your terminal so you can find your plane and your waiting area to board.  Once you find it you will be all set, check the times to see if you’re at the right gate, if your flight is on time and be sure to stay around that area so you don’t miss any important annoucements.

Delays – It’s not a for sure thing but it is common that there are delays for flights.  It is always nice to have a plane that comes on time but like anything things happen and it is important to plan for the worst and keep in mind that your plane may be late.

Security – You will have to go through security and so will everyone else that is flying.  You simply put all your items in a bin so they can be scanned and to make sure there is nothing fishy to keep everyone safe.  You will also have to take of your shoes and walk through a metal detector/screener.

Random checks – Sometimes airports have random checks.  This is nothing to worry about and is done randomly.  They will just wand you down, check your shoes and maybe do a quick peek in your luggage.  This is nothing to worry about!

Tips – Make sure you have absolutely no liquids on you when you enter the airport.  They can be in your luggage but they may not be in your hands, purse or be taken on the plane by you. These items will be thrown away by the employees and they will not let you take them on the plane.  This includes drinks, perfumes/colognes, hand sanitizers and so on.  Even if the item is expensive they will not allow you to bring it on.  The only way you CAN bring them on the plane (say they are in your purse) is if it is 3 ozs or less. 

Although you can bring a plastic bag that is the size of a quart and put liquids in it although those must be 3 ounces or less as well.

Your first time at an airport is a little confusing but once you get the hang of things you’ll be just fine!  They mostly all work and run the same way.  Keep the tips above in mind to make your visit at the airport run more smoothly and to get a heads up for what to expect.
