A common question asked among many travellers is “When is the best time that I can buy my airline ticket?”  No matter who you ask, you’re going to get a different answer and to be honest, there really isn’t a “time” to buy but there are tips that you can use in order to find the best deals possible.

Look at getting your tickets on Wednesday

Studies have shown that getting an airline ticket for a Wednesday is generally the cheapest day to fly.  It’s the middle of the week and usually, it isn’t that hot of a flying day.  I did some searches on comparable airline tickets and I found that many of the tickets online could be purchased at a 25-35% discount.

Always look for discount codes

Before you book your flight, I always make it a habit to look for online discount codes.  Instead of paying full price, you may find that there’s a code online that will allow you to save 10-20% off if you purchase a particular package.  Sometimes this will work and other times, it won’t.  Be sure to check out a post I wrote about airline coupon codes.

Try and avoid the holidays

The holidays are usually the time you don’t want to buy.  You’re going to find that flights are twice the cost and you’re going to be crammed on the plane.  I don’t think this will sound too appealing to you and I don’t blame you.  If you have to fly around the holidays, I would recommend that you compare a few airlines.  If you’re flexible, buy at least a week or so before or after the major holiday.

Buy at the last minute

This theory works sometimes but not all the times and it’s very risky if you want to try it but it can pay off.  If you want to fly somewhere, try buying at the last minute.  The airline will usually try everything in their own power to book a flight, even if it means discounting the tickets.  Passengers have tried this and seen discounts as high as 50%.

Generally, if you book 14-21 days in advance, you can actually see cheaper rates than someone who booked 1 year in advanced.  Some of these tips works while others don’t.  Try your luck at them today and see if you can save at least 25%.
