Passing Time at the Airport
by: Tom Tessin

If you like to frequent an airport a lot or you've never been to an airport before, you may find that hanging around an airport for long period of times can be extremely boring. If you don't bring any entertainment, walking around the corridor fifty times can get old quick. Being entertained is quite easy if you have the right gear.

Be prepared

Before you fly, you're going to know if you have a layover. If your layover is longer than a hour, you should probably bring extra entertainment. It's usually best to just double up on what you would have brought on the airplane. The best way to keep entertained is usually by a magazine, laptop computer (most airports have wireless internet), and anything else that may keep you entertained.

Save your appetite

Just about any airport you go to, you're going to notice that there are a ton of restaurants. If you know you're going to have a layover, you might want to wait and eat at the airport when you get there. Eating and drinking is a great way to pass the time while waiting at the airport. It's best to eat at a sit down place if your layover is about a hour and beyond. If your flight layover is less than an hour, you might just want to consider fast food seeing you won't want to rush while eating.

VIP Clubs

If you fly a lot, you probably already know about this but if you don't, I'll explain. If you're a frequent flier with a particular airline, they usually have clubs spread across the world that only you can have access too. This is a way of an airliner treating you to a nice lounge area without all the noise. The lounge areas usually have a quiet atmosphere with food, drinks, entertainment, and much more. If you fly a lot, this is a great thing to look into because it's well worth it.

Do research on the airport

All airports in the world vary. Some airports have a million things to do and others have absolutely nothing but a little coffee kiosk. A good thing to do before you fly is check out the airport you're flying to. The airport web page will usually list types of entertainment. From there, you may get ideas on what you can do when you arrive at that airport.

Passing time at the airport is very similar to passing time on an airplane, you just need to make sure you're prepared for a long wait. When you have entertainment, it saves you from the boredom and makes time fly by very fast which is a great thing. The next time you fly and you know you'll have a long layover or you know you'll be spending a lot of time in an airport, make sure you know what will make the time fly.
